Hmmmm

well today will be short, just a few thoughts from Kafka.

"The truth is indivisible and is therefore incapable of recognizing itself; whatever claims to recognize it must therefore be a lie."

"We were created to live in Paradise, and Paradise was designed to serve us. Our designation has been changed; we are not told whether this has happened to Paradise as well."

"Evil is an emanation of human consciousness at certain transitional points. It is not really the physical world that is illusion, but the Evil of it, which to our eyes constitutes, admittedly, the physical world."

tired and emotional
been surrounded by old friends for weeks now
and yet they all seem so distant
people I dont even recoginze sometimes
where is my home
and who are the people I care about
so tired so drained
and through it all
there is still only one I keep thinking about
I miss you

He put the Nation first.

What kind of bullshit is this. Gerald Ford dies and next thing you know he is an American hero who only ever had the nations well being at heart. This just goes to show how the media and the administration will attempt to glorify anyone or anything that will make America look better. However between the idea and the reality falls the shadow. Ford a lackey a paid stooge who's only real reason for being president was to pardon the criminal acts perpetrated by Nixon before the whole dirty mess was aired in a public court. I don't see how brushing the whole Watergate scandal under the carpet helped the nation. I feel that instead it helped to break the back of all those who had seen Nixon as a criminal thug who was abusing his power as president. In fact I would go so far as to say that because Nixon was never officially tried and prosecuted for his abuses of power it has been easier for latter presidents to get away with similar crimes. G Dub's domestic wiretaps would be a prime example of this. In any case the whole coverage of Ford's death is making me froth at the mouth with the blatant lies I hear repeated over and over. Lets Just remember him as the last stooge of the Nixon administration who pardoned a man who truly deserved to be punished. May he burn in hell for his complete lack of spine.

Thank you mister cab driver and please if it isnt to much trouble could you choke on your own vomit as I watch.

Okay so that may need a bit of an explination. Last night I went to an annual Christmas dinner at an old friend of mines. By about midnight I was ready to go home wrap up a few last gifts and sleep for a long time. I call a cab and am informed that the wait will be 45 minutes. That sucks ut oh well I can wait. An hour and fifteen later I call them back only to find that they have turned off their phones. FUCK. So I call the nexy comapny and am told 45 minutes. Getting really tired and just want to get home. I wait and I wait and I wait. Finally call them back to find out what the hell is going on only to find that they to have turned off their phones. I wind up spending the night on a couch about 5 times to small for myself and finally at about 9 am I am able to get home and pass out in a real bed for a couple of hours. So again fuck you very much cab drivers of Canmore I hope the coal you got in your stocking randomly explodes and you get second degree burns all over your bodies.

Well there is nothing quite like a bottle of wild turkey and mike and I sitting around to bring about an evening of philosophical ramblings and argumentation. I can't even remember what we were arguing about except that eventually it lead to the idea we had to form the do nothing party. With the part slogan "Hey at least we cant be any worse then what you have now." Anyway the late night drinking and ramblings with old friends is nowhere near over. I think tonight will be anywhere other then the hotel my fav bar in town as my friend brendan who I am going out with refuses to step foot in the place. I think I see that as a compliment.

Ok so I hate to sound like some greedy city boy but come on how hard is it to order and receive comics on a regular basis. There is no store in town that has any comics that are newer then at least a month old. I can understand only ordering in a limited number of titles that will sell, and the stores that did carry them did have some good titles, such as the new Ghostrider a lot of the civil war stuff and of course Wolverine, but come on keep them up to date for god sake. It is as if Canmore is across the ocean and living a month behind the times. Well enough whining, I mean all this does is make for a real big pile of comics when I get home, but a few new titles will on vacation would have been nice.

Well here I am on the couch beer in hand the dog at my feet a roaring fire blazing and snow covered mountains out the window. There is nothing quite like a good old fashioned hippy jam fest to make you feel like you are back in Canmore. I went out to this lil tiny bar in town called Zonas. It was jam night there and the hippys where filling the place with bongo drums and bob marly covered guitars. Anyway all my good friends where there and the beer was flowing, so I didn't mind the fact that I hate hippy music. It was just such a friendly and boisterous atmosphere, reminds me why I used to love living here. Anyway I should be hitting the hill sometime very soon so expect some highlights.

HOW LONG OH LORD HOW LONG!!!!

ugggghhhh I think my brain is frying. I am right now trying to finish off my last paper of the semester and have been in front of this laptop for to long now. My eyes are red and bloodshot and I am certain that if the phone rings I will jump up and shoot the fucking thing. Ragged nerves and a sense of impending doom, really the only way write creatively. Or as creatively as I can be in a paper which has to be about Kant's ethical system. So in a fashion that seems to be the only way to function properly in philosophy I have gone on the attack. Kant's vision of rational beings and our sense of duty in respect to law leads to emotionally void automatons giving their freedom to a higher unchallengeable set of rules. A great example of the kind of rational beings Kant envisions would be the NAZIS. yes thats right Kant was a jackboot loving empire spreading heap of waste before we had even begun to call them Nazis. In any case I am looking for a good grade because no one likes a Nazi. So until this hate filled pile of verbal puke is finished and I am sipping on a beer in front of a hot fire in the rockies wishing I had someone to cuddle up with there may not be a new post. But never fear I assure all you readers(the sounds of crickets in an empty field) that I will be back and most assuredly with some nasty things to say about how gentrified Canmore has become, oh yeah and how great the riding was.

As the flames of hell lick at his boots
He finally spies his quarry
Four men or rather four demons in rotting human shells
The abominations that made this meeting inevitable
They turn and meet his gaze
With a knowing horror in their eyes
His hand falls to his hip
An image of liquid grace his gun flies from its holster
Gaping holes materialize in their maggot infested heads
And as their bodies are slowly eaten by the fire
He falls to his knees his face in his hands

The cabin's door is old
cracked beams of sun bleached wood
the hinges awakening after a long slumber
letting off a sound that could only be
the screaming of damned souls trying to escape
But none of this reaches him
His stare never wavers
and all he can think about is reaching those monsters
even though as his dusty boots enter the cabin
the landscape changes and his world's true nature is revealed
He is in hell
seas of people all in the slow process of rot and regeneration
their very souls slowly torn apart piece by piece
only to be put back together again to start the process anew
He still sees only the men that killed his wife
He trudges forward sealing his place among their ranks

Daredevil the ultimate Kantian?

Daredevil a young boy hit by toxic waste truck in an attempt to save an old mans life. Blinded by the accident and left with his other senses hightend. Under the tutelage of the old ninja master Stick He learns to harness his abilities and block out the assaulting sounds and smells of the city that would otherwise drive him insane. Soon after His Father, a boxer and hired muscle, is killed by some locals thugs because he would not throw a fight arranged by his mafia boss.

With his dying Father in his arms the smell of the old boxing gym that Daredevil loved so much surrounding him he could have given up and lived a quite unassuming life. Instead He devotes himself to the law and the pursuit of justice. He does this not because of a desire for revenge or because he wants to, but because he feels it is his duty. It something that must be done and if everyone did the world would be a place of peace, but just because others are not is no excuse for him not to.

It is not just as Daredevil that this duty applies. He also devotes his life to becoming a lawyer and once he is one uses the law to try and make his city a better place. All this from a sense of duty. Even after having the two women he loved die in his arms he still can not give up the sense of duty that drives him to be Daredevil. It is his belief in objective moral values that enables him to see what is required of him and what duties he has.

Except for the fact that Daredevil has been lying about his identity for years he could be seen as a moral saint under the Kantian ethical framework.

I think it is the duty aspect of Kant's morality that makes so many noir characters so interesting. The drive to do what they feel must be done no matter how they actually feel about the situation.

under a glaring sun
with an endless desert at his feet
a lone figure seeks comfort
beneath a wide brimmed cowboy hat
left for dead by those with evil in their hearts
his wifes blood staining his weathered poncho
one foot in front of the other
there is no hope only revenge
his eyes black pits of inky darkness
a soul screaming for justice
one foot in front of the other
the leather of his gun belt cracking in the heat
a hand as gruff as sandpaper caressing
the smoothed wood handle of his gun
one foot in front of the other
over another rolling dune
a shimmering image of a cabin
is it real does it matter
not much further to go
and then he'll meet them all in hell

Time is the killer we can not see
its silent fingers able to pull at the stars
if even the mountains can not withstand
what hope have you or I
a flower will bloom and then decay
and civilizations will rise and fall
but will our words escape this fate
and halt this killer with the power of the page
if they can but capture a piece
of the indelible essence of my love
you will live forevermore

the price of peace

Just a quick posy today as I am busy working on a paper due at midnight. While reading the paper this morning I ran across a story of an Israeli citizen that was offering 1 million dollars to the prime minister of Palestine if they would sit down and talk with the Israeli government. The idea was quickly killed by the Israeli government but it sounded like Hamas was actually considering it.

This raised a few issues with me. The first is how bad is the conflict getting when private citizens are offering their own money to kick start negotiations. The second is how desperate for funds is Hamas to actually be considering the offer.

Reading the Punisher trade paper back Welcome Back Frank today got me to thinking about vigilantes. Specifically if there are no objective moral values and you take Hobbes' notion that rational being seek peace, make covenants, and keep covenants then is there a way to say that The Punisher is a way of dealing with beings that have become irrational. This may sound a little drastic as the Punisher is known for his brutal methods, but Hobbes acknowledges that a coercive element is need in society to keep people from breaking their covenants. In the Punisher's world the cops and government are failing to do this job. The Punisher has taken it upon himself to be the agent of enforcement of the social contract.

Bit of a stretch I know but in interesting idea. It would be far easier to defend the Punisher's actions from a utilitarian perspective. By killing off a small group that is hurting the greater good the Punisher is attempting to bring about the most amount of happiness to the most amount of people. Allowing the Punisher to do his job makes more people happy then not letting him do his job.

If the sound of everything is OHMM
Then what is the sound of nothing
See the road under your feet
There is nothing else but this moment

Already it is gone
and image of the road is empty
a movie with an ending and no detail
exhaustable and irreal

But here it is again
A new moment to examine the infinity
You could never perceive
All that there is to perceive

Theres always more
And theres always the possibility
that this time
your reaction might be different

There it goes
Did you hear it
That sound
Nothing

Friend or Foe

ok so I woke up last night from a weird dream. I don't remember much except for the fact that there where some freaking zombies in it.
Now this got me to thinking about well you guessed it zombies. my first thought was wait a minute I just found a giant plot hole in one of my favorite comics The Walking Dead. It is an uber long story about a world overtaken by zombies and it focuses on a small group and their attempts to make some semblance of a normal life within it. The hole I found was zombies are undead if I am not mistaken. Their flesh is rotting as their bodies are dead, it is only the brain which seems to still be functioning. If this is the case what keeps the humans in the story from just completely rotting away in like 6 months. I mean they just have to keep hiding out in the jail they have found until all the zombies just turn into worm food. Of course this doesn't seem to be the case. So my question for everybody is "what keeps them from just rotting away". The theory that I am going on is that because the brain is still functioning it must still be keeping some of the other bodily functions alive as well.

On another note if zombies start to show reasoning skills such as in land of the dead then have they actually lost their humanity and are only acting on instinct or is there some aspect of their humanity that survives. If their essential humanity is struggling and under attack from this "zombie" virus or whatever is it our duty to help them regain their humanity instead of just killing them all outright.

a home for the lost thoughts of reflective consciousness

well here goes I want to try and make this a place to put ideas and observations that I come up with. A home for lost thoughts and a way of making them more then just concepts through the magic of imaging consciousness. Sort of a place to actualize things that would otherwise cease to exist when I exit reflective consciousness and once again return to the world of unreflective consciousness in which "I" cease to be.

I am not really sure how this whole thing is going to turn out but it sounds like a cool thought exercise. If this actually starts to work and there are some interesting ideas or thoughts on here I want people to feel free to post comments and argue, disagree, and bring up other points or whatever.
